In June 2026, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg opened Palestine Uprooted: Nakba Past and Present — the first time a national museum in Canada has given the Nakba its own exhibition. It is on display in the Museum’s Rights Today gallery on Level 5 until November 2028.
The exhibition tells the story of the Nakba — the forced displacement of some 750,000 Palestinians in 1948 — through history, personal stories, art and artifacts, and connects it to the displacement Palestinians continue to face today.
This section brings together the advocacy that led to the exhibition, the people who helped shape it, and the ways you can support it.

Why it matters
Palestinian Canadians have advocated for this recognition since 2008. Recognition is a beginning: what one national institution has named, others can no longer ignore.
The exhibition has faced organized pressure since it opened. More than 70 human rights, labour, faith and civil society organizations, including PCC, have publicly defended the Museum and its curatorial independence. Read the joint statement.
